Strategic contribution: Oversight of the internal audit and risk management function for the Department of Education’s $12 billion budget, $33 billion in assets, 1,260 schools, and 76,000 employees.

The Governance Institute of Australia is a peak body for independent corporate governance professionals, company secretaries, and company directors with a sole focus on whole-of-organisation governance.
Strategic Contribution: Delivering the Institute’s flagship governance training program the Effective Directors Course. With a focus on financial services and international companies, I provide customized in-house training for organizations such as ANZ Bank, The Central Bank of the Solomon Islands, RACQ, DFAT, critical infrastructure providers and health providers.
GREENBOX GROUP
Non-Executive Director, Chair of the Finance Committee

Greenbox is one of Australia’s largest IT asset deployment, recovery, end-of-life, and e-waste recycling (ITAD) companies. Greenbox is carbon neutral, ISO 14001 certified for environmental compliance, and has received R2 certification for environmental compliance.
Strategic Contribution: As a Non-Executive Director, I have overseen a 50% revenue increase, materials improvements in margins, and overseen the successful acquisition of a business in New Zealand. In my role as Chair of the Finance Committee, I led the reorganisation of the company’s financial reporting framework and continue to provide oversight of its finance and accounting functions.
AUSTRALIAN PAIN MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION
Chair of the Board of Directors | Brisbane | 09/2019 – 11/2023
The Australian Pain Management Association (APMA) represents 3.6 million Australians living with chronic pain. APMA provides collective advocacy, information and practical support for people living with chronic (persistent) pain and their families. APMA is the consumer health organisation for all Australians who live with pain.
Strategic Contribution: As a Non-executive Director and Chair, I shepherded the organisation through COVID, and the post COVID challenges of funding facing not for profits. Managed the board through the transition of the founding CEO, and led the merger of APMA with Chronic Pain Australia, creating the largest pain consumer organization in the sector. Achieved significant cost synergies, doubled membership numbers, and tripled funding during my time as Chair. Represented 3.6 million Australians suffering from chronic pain, enhancing support and advocacy efforts.
SLADE INDUSTRIES

Slade Industries (Slade) is a specialist electrical commissioning, shutdown, and start-up maintenance service company in the oil, gas, and energy sectors. Slade provides specialist services in hazardous areas, plant commissioning, instrumentation calibration and optimisation.
Strategic contribution: As Chairman of the Advisory Board guided the company through a strategic review, HR reorganisation, restructure of the finance function, and appointment of a transitional general manager.

Con-sol are a brand experiences company who have been creating unforgettable brand experience across Australia for over 24 years. From corporate events to gala nights, Con-Sol provide full service creative vision, AV and event management solutions.
Strategic contribution: Joining the company post COVID when the live events industry had been put on life support, I spearheaded post-COVID business recovery, turnaround, and growth plan. Conducted comprehensive HR and organizational design reviews, financial systems audits, and strategic development. Increased revenues by 200% within two years following the COVID-19 pandemic.
E2M PTY LTD
Advisory Board Member | Brisbane | 05/2021 – 10/2023
E2M is a Queensland’s largest terrestrial ecology consulting company. E2M provide consulting ecologists to renewables projects, environmental analytics, biodiversity offsets, approvals and compliance, and environmental impact assessments.
Strategic contribution: As a member of the Advisory Board oversaw strategic business review including, HR and organizational design assessments, and financial function performance and strategic growth initiatives. Achieved a 25% increase in headcount, 250% revenue growth, and a 400% increase in net profit over two years.

INTERFINANCIAL CORPORATE FINANCE
Director M&A Growth Advisory | Brisbane | 08/2023 to current
InterFinancial is recognised as one of Australia’s leading independent corporate advisory M&A firms. InterFinancial specialises in mid-market transactions between $AU20 million and $AU250 million. InterFinancial is a member of the Clairfield International group with offices in 22 countries. in 2023 Interfinancial was ranked in the top eight for Mid-market transactions and top four for small-cap transactions.
Strategic Contribution: Shaun is experienced in buy-side and sell-side M&A transaction advice, capital raising, deal negotiations, term sheet development, due diligence and post-acquisition integration. He has extensive cross-border M&A experience and leads InterFinancial’s Japan practise.
Shaun is building the growth advisory practise at InterFinancial. By working with companies one-three years ahead of a transaction we create ‘time’, the invaluable element that allows companies to drive business improvement initiatives, and sustainable EBITDA increases that result in increased multiples on sale or exit.
Shaun has developed InterFinancial’s proprietary Investment Ready Pathway, a comprehensive diagnostic and business improvement process that utilises an investor’s lens to improve performance, prepare a business for investment, or sale and to generate higher valuations. BDO NEW ZEALAND LIMITED
National Chief Operating Officer
BDO is a global financial services firm providing accounting, audit, tax, and advisory services. They are the 5th largest global accounting network with US$14b in revenues, and 110,000 employees in 70 countries.
Role: Reporting to the Board, I led corporate functions for a 1,000-person financial services organization across 15 locations. I was responsible for, finance operations, ICT, cybersecurity, HR, risk management, marketing and communications, privacy, AML-CFT compliance, planning and strategy delivery. I led the governance and compliance function, managing teams in technical accounting, regulatory affairs, quality standards, and internal audit.
Strategic contribution: Reporting directly to the Board of Directors I led the corporate functions of the business during a major period of change for the business. I was responsible for the governance of major change projects at board level.
ICT Consolidation: Consolidated 11 firms onto a unified IT platform, cut server sites from 13 to 3, and reduced software applications from 1,300 to 300, enhancing efficiency and reducing costs.
Cybersecurity: Concurrently upgraded cybersecurity frameworks to protect customer data and reduce intrusion risks.
Risk Management: Upgraded the risk management frameworks of the business.
Compliance programs: implemented EU-GDPR-compliant privacy programs and led the AML compliance rollout.
NZ TRADE AND ENTERPRISE
Regional Director East Asia | Diplomat |Tokyo, Singapore | 2007-2016
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is the New Zealand government’s international business development agency. Working in more than 40 locations, across 24 time zones, and 40 languages, NZTE have the global scale, trust and credibility that can help open doors, plus access to local connections for commercial success.
Role: As Regional Director East Asia, I lead the NZ Governments Trade Commissions across East Asia: Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. This was a Diplomatic posting (Minister Commercial) and I was the most senior Trade Diplomat in the region. The role managed 60 business development staff across nine locations.
Strategic contribution: Between 2007 and 2016 teams I lead delivered $997 million in new business for their clients. My teams delivered focused business development, market entry, joint venture, partnering, distribution and growth strategies NZ SMEs.
Portfolio: Food and beverage, agriculture, ICT, specialised manufacturing, and energy infrastructure industries.
B2B: Established a food and beverage B2B trade platform across 8 ASEAN capitals and Japan and Korea, which attracted 3,500 key buyers across 10 locations, and delivered $32.5 million in deals.
B2C: Ran retail FMCG trade promotions across 8 Asian Capitals that delivered – 52,000 promotion days in 3,759 outlets and 87 supermarket chains. Gave out 205,000 samples, which resulted in 4 million purchases with exposure to 76 million customers and $71 million in new deals.
BIOSECURITY LIMITED

Biosecurity Limited utilises proprietary controlled growing technology to manufacture functional foods and beverage for the nutraceutical industries. Developing world class leading equipment for the production of functional sprouts, Biosecurity Pty Ltd is committed to providing controlled growing environment technology that is traceable, auditable and free from contamination, pollutants, herbicides and pesticides.
Strategic Contribution: Hired to lead the financial turnaround of the Biosecurity group of companies, I successfully transformed Biosecurity Limited, a food and nutraceutical manufacturing business, from the R&D phase to full commercialisation. Key achievements include restructuring the business, cutting costs, raising equity, expanding the product range, and entering international markets through joint ventures, agents, and distributors. I also established robust sales channels and international partnerships.
Awards: The Australian Trade Coast Award at the Lord Mayor’s Brisbane Business and Innovation Awards in 2006 for innovation and global competitiveness.

Occidental was a finance leasing business providing automotive and logistics services to Tokyo Expats.
Strategic contribution: Founder and managing Director. Grew start up to six million in revenues providing bilingual finance, leasing, insurance, automotive, heavy machinery, and logistics services to over 50 countries.

Bankers Trust was a global Amercian investment bank that was purchased by Deutsche Bank in 1999.
