Blue Chip Financial Services Company Risk and Compliance Training.
I was engaged by a prominent banking and insurance group to deliver a comprehensive risk and compliance uplift program for 100 staff members across their risk and compliance business units. The objective was to strengthen risk awareness, enhance compliance capabilities, and foster a cohesive approach to risk governance throughout the organisation.
Program Design and Delivery
We structured the training into four interactive modules, delivered through a case study approach to encourage collaboration and practical understanding:
- Risk Governance
Explored the organisation’s risk governance structures, roles, and accountabilities, emphasizing how effective governance underpins sound risk management. - Risk Management Frameworks
Dived into the risk frameworks in place, promoting consistency in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation processes throughout the business. - Compliance Obligations
Reviewed key regulatory requirements and compliance standards, including recent regulator feedback, to raise awareness of mandatory obligations and consequences of non-compliance. - Personal Leadership – What Does It Mean For Me?
Focused on leadership at all levels, highlighting the importance of individual accountability in embedding risk culture and driving ethical behaviours.
Approach and Outcomes
Using a collaborative case study approach, the training brought together risk and compliance personnel from across departments and geographic locations. This enabled the participants to develop a shared taxonomy and language around risk and compliance, which was previously fragmented.
Through facilitated discussions on regulator insights, competitor experiences, and internal cultural dynamics, the group critically examined whether known industry risks could manifest within their organisation and what proactive steps were needed.
A review of regulator feedback coupled with industry case studies brought a clearer understanding of industry risks and the potential for those risks to evenuate here.
By the conclusion of the program, participants had achieved:
- A clearer, shared understanding of the organisation’s risk landscape.
- Enhanced awareness of their specific roles and responsibilities in risk mitigation.
- Improved alignment between governance frameworks and frontline compliance activities.
- Strengthened personal commitment to leadership in risk culture.
Impact
The training led to measurable uplift in risk and compliance performance indicators and laid the foundation for ongoing cross-functional collaboration. Senior management reported increased confidence that staff were more engaged and equipped to manage risks proactively, supporting the organisation’s broader strategic objectives.
